Is Your Dealership Visible to AI Shoppers?
Dusty Sutherland
VP of Client Success

Search behavior has quietly split in two. Some shoppers still type "Camry near me" into Google and scroll a results page. A growing number skip that step entirely and ask an AI assistant directly: "best deal on a Camry near me," "which dealership has the lowest price on a Silverado." They expect an answer, not a list of links to click through.
That second group is the one most dealerships aren't set up for.
A different problem than internal AI tools
It's worth being precise about what this is and isn't. This isn't about whether your team uses AI internally, for scheduling, for drafting a service reminder, for summarizing a review. That's a separate question with a separate answer.
This is about whether your dealership shows up when a shopper asks an AI assistant for a recommendation. Two different problems. A dealership can be excellent at the first and invisible on the second, and the shopper never knows the difference. They just don't see you.
Why a strong website doesn't solve this
A fast site, a clean SRP, and a well-optimized VDP earn a dealership visibility in traditional search. None of that guarantees visibility when the shopper's question goes straight to an AI assistant instead of a search engine.
The assistant is answering from its own read of what's out there, not sending the shopper to browse your site and decide for themselves. If your inventory and offers aren't structured to surface in that answer, the shopper never reaches your site at all. The strongest SRP in the market doesn't matter if the AI never points a shopper toward it.
That's the gap. Not a weaker version of the old problem, a new one, on a channel most dealerships haven't touched yet.
What Clover built for this
Clover's OpenAI ChatGPT Ads puts your inventory and offers directly in front of shoppers who are searching through AI instead of a traditional search bar. Instead of hoping an assistant picks up your listings on its own, your offers are placed where those shoppers are already asking the question.
One dealer already has a full month of results to show for it: 98.2% of budget delivered and real shoppers browsing inventory, not just clicking and bouncing.
This is the same discipline Clover applies everywhere else: name the ad, name the offer, put it in front of the right shopper at the moment they're asking. Here, the moment just happens to be inside a chat window instead of a search results page.
Where this fits for Q4
Q4 is when shoppers do the most comparison shopping of the year, and it's also when the AI-search habit is compounding fastest. A shopper asking an assistant for "the best year-end deal on a Silverado" in November is a shopper your dealership either shows up for or doesn't. There's no in-between.
Clover is rolling OpenAI ChatGPT Ads out to dealerships now, ahead of that Q4 shopping window. The build follows the same process as every other Clover launch: structured by shopper intent, managed daily, reported plainly.
What this means for your store
If your dealership isn't showing up in AI-driven search yet, that's not a failure of your existing marketing. It's a channel that didn't exist for most of the industry until recently. The dealerships that show up for it now are the ones shoppers will find first when they ask the question. The ones that wait will find out the hard way, when a shopper who never saw them buys from a competitor down the road instead.
Clover will show you exactly what this looks like for your store: what shows up today when an AI assistant is asked about your market, and what changes once OpenAI ChatGPT Ads is running.
